12 Contrasting Images of London – Assignment

Pages

Assignments such as this one on ‘contrasting images‘, are a great ways to try to tune your eye so that it starts to see the world with a photographers eye. They teach you to find images that tells a story by themselves without the need for a detailed explanation.

I found the best way for me to do this task, was to limit myself to a few examples at a time. This helped me get my brain and eye working  closer together to spot potential subjects  that I could photograph – however I did go back several times and repeat the exercise to try to get the ‘perfect image’ – which I never achieved.

I have put together 12  images based on 6 contrasting themes, but they all could be improved on! These ones were Pointed/Round, Many/Few, Moving/Still, Straight/Curved, Dark/Light, and Soft/Hard.

Here are a few more you could try:-

  • Heavy-  light
  • Black – white
  • Thick – Thin
  • Liquid – solid
  • Rich – poor
  • Narrow – broad
  • Fast – slow
  • Clean – dirty
  • Big – small
  • Busy – quiet

Note – I got this piece of work assessed as part of the initial modules on the degree course, and this taught me that other people will interpret you images differently to you, and have a different definition on what is a good photograph and its errors. Some I agree with and some I don’t.
