Charing Cross is one of the main centres to explore the southern part of Central London, as it has excellent travel connections and is right by Trafalgar Square and Whitehall. Although the centre of London is centred around Charing Cross, it was originally at the edge of London near the Royal mews and only began to become built up in Victorian times.
The area has a number of good photographic sites which are often overlooked as people tend to be drawn towards the more famous sites such as Trafalgar Square – so take you time to look around.
The area does get quite crowded but the best time to visit is early in the morning during the weekend.
