Canary Wharf

Canary Wharf is now a major business district located in Poplar. It is one of London’s two main financial centres, the other being the traditional City of London. Canary Wharf also contains many of the UK’s tallest buildings, including, One Canada Square.

The West India Docks once formed part of the busiest port in the world. After the docks were closed in 1980, the British Government adopted various policies to stimulate the redevelopment of the area and turned it into what it is today.

I like photographing this area in the morning and evening because the light tends to make the pictures look better. It’s best to visit the central part in spring summer and autumn when the sun is higher in the sky and if you visit the area in the morning, go from east to west with the sun behind you. In winter, the sun does not rise high enough, which can give you a problem with high contrast that the camera often has difficulty coping with.
